Our Core Belief

“All maintenance starts with the Inspection.”

Its the quality, frequency, and accuracy of an Inspection that determines the condition of any building system. A predictive inspection will expose the potential for system failure and provide options for corrective action and engineering solutions.

inspection /ɪnˈspɛkʃən/  noun
plural inspections
Britannica Dictionary definition of INSPECTION

1: the act of looking at something closely in order to learn more about it, to find problems, etc.: the act of inspecting something

Our Story

Inspection is the most important part of maintenance.

After 25+ years of electrical/mechanical inspection and maintenance, I found that nearly all equipment failures were preventable if detected early and that the Inspection was the most important part of maintenance. Most failures occurred over time which means that a more specialized inspection program could’ve found the problems early and that repairs could be made safe before the equipment failed, and at a lower cost.

I researched the topic of Predictive Maintenance and Inspections to learn more about predictive inspection technology. What I  found was a lot of statistics, case studies, and information on the subject. NFPA 70B, NFPA 110, ANSI/NETA all have standards that recommend regular predictive inspections, and many industries had active predictive inspection programs.

The oil and gas industry, large manufacturing facilities, and electrical power utilities have been using predictive inspections for many years. The data shows that Predictive Maintenance is highly cost-effective, saving roughly 8% to 12% over preventive maintenance, and up to 40% over reactive maintenance (according to the U.S. Department of Energy).

It was time to develop a predictive inspection service.

I’ve been inspecting, installing, servicing, and maintaining electrical/mechanical systems in industrial and commercial buildings for 25+years, so I had the building maintenance and systems knowledge covered. Now I needed to learn more about the science of predictive inspection and technology used for inspection and analysis.

After some research, I found the two most effective inspection technologies for building systems, Thermographic Infrared and Airborne/Structure Borne Ultrasound. Nearly all building system failures produce excessive heat or create an auditable ultrasound before functional failure.

I found two of the best providers of Infrared and Ultrasound inspection equipment and training.         (Teledyne/FLIR for infrared and UE Systems for ultrasound). I invested in their best-in-class inspection imager and probes. Received their factory certifications.

In 2014 I started Source Energy Infrared.

Our Mission was and still is, to provide the safest and most effective predictive inspection service for our clients in all areas of building maintenance. We now provide our inspection services to clients in NY, VT, CT.
